April 2 and 4, 2013 Bauman University hosted lectures by the famous English scientist, professor from Oxford University Roger Penrose. Penrose was in Moscow as much as forty years ago and again visited Moscow to share his knowledge. Sir Roger Penrose works in various areas of mathematics, general relativity and quantum theory, he is the developer of twistor theory, the author of theory of quantum consciousness, quantum leap and quantum biology. In Bauman Moscow State Technical University, he gave two lectures:
1. The Beauty and Power of Complex Numbers and their Role in The Discovery of Twistor Theory.
2. Are we Able to See Through the Big Bang into Another World?
According to the model proposed by Sir Roger, the Big Bang preceded the emergence of the present universe. And it was followed by a rapid, exponential expansion. For a long time it remained unclear why the expansion was accelerated. According to all the physical theories, it is, on the contrary, must be slowed down. All was explained by the dark matter, which threw light on many problems of modern science. Despite the fact that according to all theoretical data, it must exist, and even occupy the main part of the reality, it was not possible yet to experimentally detect the dark matter. And Sir Roger Penrose calls this fact the greatest mystery of the modern science.
The expanding Universe has the property of the increasing entropy - or, in other words, the increasing role of disordered structures. It turns out, the older and larger the Universe is, the more it tends to be disordered, which, apparently, was not so at the time, prior to the Big Bang. "However, no matter how much we criticize our earthly life, there are objects where the entropy reaches its maximum values far greater than we can imagine, - said Sir Roger. - These are amazing in their properties black holes, where, according to my friend Stephen Hawking's formula, the entropy is greater than anywhere else in the Universe. "
However, Penrose believes that they still exist. "Inside the black hole Einstein's laws do not work, there another physics prevails, which is beyond our current understanding," - he says. Stephen Hawking even offers its own model of a time machine, by which you can get in the future, traveling in the vicinity of the black hole.
"If our Universe is expanding, and there exist black holes in it, it is quite possible, there are universes which are contracting and there exist white holes," - he suggests. It is possible that the expansion and contraction are constantly successive time cycles.
Professor Roger Penrose is the honorary professor of numerous foreign universities. He is the member of the Royal Society of London. In 1994 the Queen of England awarded him with the knighthood for his outstanding contribution to the development of science.
Among his awards - the Wolf Prize (1988, together with Stephen Hawking), the Copley Medal (2008), Albert Einstein Prize and Medal of the Royal Society.
